
Jammu, July 1: Authorities are on high alert for the Shri Amarnath Yatra. The Jammu Railway Police have intensified security measures to ensure the safety of pilgrims during the journey. Surveillance has been increased at railway stations in Kathua, Jammu, and other sensitive areas under their jurisdiction. In the last three days, 24 suspicious individuals have been detained.
According to the railway police, a special investigation operation conducted by the GRP Jammu at Kathua railway station led to the detention of four individuals found loitering under suspicious circumstances. They were taken into custody for questioning and verification. Preventive complaints were filed against them under relevant sections. All four were subsequently presented before the Executive Magistrate First Class (EMIC) in Kathua for further legal action.
Similarly, during an inspection at Jammu railway station, six suspicious individuals were detained. Preventive complaints were filed against them as well, and they were presented before the EMIC in Rakh Bahu, Jammu, for legal proceedings.
The railway police reported that a total of 24 suspicious individuals have been detained as a precautionary measure from various areas within their jurisdiction over the past three days. This action aims to strengthen security during the Amarnath Yatra and prevent any potential threats.
The Shri Amarnath Yatra is set to commence on July 3, 2026. To facilitate a smooth and secure operation, the Jammu Traffic Police announced route restrictions and traffic diversions in the city starting Thursday. According to the advisory issued by the traffic police, the first convoy of pilgrims will depart from the Yatri Niwas in Bhagwati Nagar on July 2. The convoy heading to Baltal will leave at 4:00 AM, while the one going to Pahalgam will depart at 4:15 AM.
The advisory states that no traffic will be allowed on major routes in the city from 3:45 AM until the last vehicle of the convoy heading to Pahalgam passes.
