England Triumphs Over West Indies by 38 Runs in Womens T20 World Cup

London, June 25: In an impressive display, England defeated West Indies by 38 runs in the 22nd match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Chasing a target of 187 runs set by England at Lord’s, the West Indies managed to score only 148 runs, losing 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

The West Indies had a shaky start in their innings. Captain Hayley Matthews was dismissed for just 14 runs after facing 17 balls. Veteran player Deandra Dottin also struggled, scoring only 19 runs before falling to Charlie Dean. Janilia Glasgow was bowled out for just 6 runs, while Shakera Selman was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 20 runs, courtesy of Sophie Ecclestone. Jahzara Claxton failed to capitalize on a good start, getting out for 21 runs.

However, Chinelle Henry attempted to steer the West Indies to victory with an unbeaten 51 runs off 30 balls, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes. Despite her efforts, the team could not secure a win. On the bowling front, Charlie Dean was the standout for England, taking 2 wickets for 31 runs, while Lauren Bell and Linsey Smith each claimed one wicket.

Earlier, England posted a total of 186 runs after losing 7 wickets in their innings. Amy Jones had a quiet outing, scoring only 8 runs, and Sophie Dunkley managed just 14 runs. After losing 2 wickets for 38 runs, Danny Wyatt and Alice Capsey stabilized the innings with a crucial partnership, adding 66 runs for the third wicket off 50 balls. Capsey scored 28 runs off 23 balls, while Wyatt showcased her skills with a remarkable 65 runs off 42 balls, including 8 fours.

In the final overs, Heather Knight played a powerful innings, scoring 43 runs off just 26 balls, hitting 7 fours. Captain Charlie Dean remained not out with 9 runs off 3 balls. For the West Indies, Ashmini Munisar took 2 wickets for 42 runs, while Chinelle Henry and Hayley Matthews each took one wicket.
