Kolkata, March 5: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Thursday that its full bench will visit Kolkata and West Bengal for two days next week. The schedule promises to be quite busy.
According to the itinerary, the full bench, led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, will arrive in Kolkata on the evening of March 8. On March 9 and 10, the commission will review two critical issues.
The first issue pertains to the judicial verification process of voter documents categorized under “logical discrepancy.” The second issue focuses on preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal later this year.
A source from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office stated that on March 9, from 10 AM to 12 PM, the full bench will meet with representatives from various registered political parties. Each party will be allotted approximately 10 minutes to present their views.
Following this, around 12:30 PM, West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal will present before the full bench. This presentation will cover the status of judicial decisions and election preparations, lasting about 30 minutes.
Between 1:15 PM and 1:30 PM, the full bench will hold a meeting with representatives from various state and central security and investigative agencies. An insider from the CEO office revealed that around 24 agencies, including district magistrates and district police superintendents, will participate in this meeting, concluding the schedule for March 9.
On March 10, the entire election commission team will meet with senior officials from the state government and police. This meeting will include West Bengal’s Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and Acting Director General of Police Piyush Pandey.
According to a source from the CEO office, this meeting is set to begin at 10 AM and is expected to last for about 10 hours. Afterward, the commission will also meet with election registration officers, assistant election registration officers, and booth-level officers. Once the meetings are completed, the entire election commission team will return to Delhi on the same day.
