ED Raids 15 Locations in Fake Govt Job Scam Across India

Patna: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched a major investigation into a large-scale fake government job scam operating through a well-organised syndicate. The gang was reportedly defrauding people by promising fake government jobs.

The case initially came to light with allegations related to Indian Railways. However, the probe revealed that the syndicate’s operations extended far beyond the railways, involving more than 40 other government organisations and departments. These include the Forest Department, Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), India Post, Income Tax Department, High Court, Public Works Department (PWD), Bihar government, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Rajasthan Secretariat, among others.

According to sources, the accused created fake email accounts mimicking official government domains and sent counterfeit joining letters to victims. To build trust, the gang even paid initial salaries for two to three months to some individuals, placing them in roles such as Railway Protection Force (RPF), Train Ticket Examiner (TTE), and Technicians within the railways to create an illusion of authenticity.

Currently, the ED is conducting raids at 15 locations across the country. In Bihar, searches are underway in Muzaffarpur at one site and Motihari at two sites. In West Bengal, two locations in Kolkata are being investigated. In Kerala, raids are ongoing in Ernakulam, Pandalam, Adoor, and Kodur—one site each. Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, Gujarat’s Rajkot, and Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur (two sites), Prayagraj (one site), and Lucknow (one site) are also under scrutiny.

The ED has described the syndicate as a large and well-organised criminal network operating across several states and departments. Investigators are working to determine the full extent of the network, identify all involved parties, and estimate the number of victims affected by this fraud. Further significant revelations are expected as the investigation progresses.
