Kolkata, August 8: The General Manager of Eastern Railway, Geetika Pandey, conducted an inspection on Saturday of various sections of the Sealdah Division, one of the busiest divisions in Indian Railways. During her visit, she reviewed operational efficiency, safety measures, and passenger amenities.
The Sealdah Division serves millions of passengers daily. It operates over 700 EMU local and passenger trains, along with several mail and express trains to North Bengal and Northern India.
During the inspection, Geetika Pandey interacted with passengers and frontline railway staff at Sealdah and Kalyani stations. She also evaluated the ongoing station development projects in the Sealdah-Kalyani section.
The General Manager personally inspected passenger facilities, safety arrangements, and security measures at Sealdah station. She visited the crew lobby to assess the booking management system for locomotive pilots and assistant locomotive pilots, ensuring operational efficiency.
Demonstrating her commitment to workplace safety, she engaged directly with frontline security personnel to discuss operational conditions. She emphasized the strict adherence to safety regulations.
Following this, she conducted a window trailing inspection in the Sealdah-Kalyani section, assessing track conditions, the reliability of the signaling system, and overall route safety.
Upon reaching Kalyani, she reviewed the ongoing development works under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which includes the construction of foot overbridges, expansion of car parking, enhancement of passenger amenities, and upgrades to the station’s appearance and passenger contact areas.
According to a senior official from Eastern Railway, since assuming office on August 1, Geetika Pandey has prioritized safety and smooth train operations. Recently, she held a video conference with over 780 frontline staff across all four divisions of Eastern Railway to discuss operational challenges.
She is also closely monitoring safety, security, and operational arrangements during the ongoing Shravan Mela, which attracts millions of devotees traveling to Deoghar and Tarakeshwar.
Shivram Majhi, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway, stated, “Eastern Railway prioritizes the development of modern infrastructure along with safety and passenger convenience. Regular inspections help maintain high operational standards and ensure prompt action on passenger complaints and suggestions.”
