New Delhi, August 9: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from US Vice President JD Vance. The two leaders discussed various measures to further strengthen the comprehensive global strategic partnership between India and the United States.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, on the birth of their son, extending best wishes to the entire family.
In a post on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “I received a call from US Vice President JD Vance. We discussed ways to enhance the comprehensive global strategic partnership between India and the US across various important sectors. I also conveyed heartfelt congratulations to him and the Second Lady on the birth of their son and wished the entire family well.”
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the ongoing momentum of high-level dialogue. They reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation in areas such as trade, defense, critical and emerging technologies, energy security, and essential minerals.
The statement also noted that they exchanged views on regional and global developments that are equally significant for both countries.
Earlier in July 2026, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar agreed to expedite work on key defense agreements and finalize an interim bilateral trade agreement. The US indicated that this trade agreement is nearly complete, signaling a new momentum for the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The meeting between the two leaders took place during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Manila, Philippines, where they also reviewed the situation in the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific region.
According to US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, Marco Rubio and S. Jaishankar discussed progress in defense cooperation. Both sides reviewed ongoing efforts to finalize significant defense agreements in line with the accords reached between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.
