Imphal, August 8: In the last 24 hours, the law and order situation in Manipur has remained stable. Meanwhile, security forces have achieved significant successes in sensitive and border areas of the state through ongoing search and area domination operations.
According to a press release from the Manipur police, on August 8, security forces recovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition, suspected IEDs, and military equipment near the office of the forest beat officer in the Khema Reserved Forest area of Nepet Pali in Imphal East district.
The recovered items include four 9mm pistols with magazines, two single-barrel guns, approximately 4.6 kg of a suspected IED, 14 grenades, 162 live cartridges of various calibers, 26 empty shells, two magazines, two stun shells, and one rubber bullet. Additionally, bulletproof jacket covers, iron plates, communication devices, and other military materials were seized.
Based on intelligence, security forces conducted search and cordon operations that led to the arrest of several active members of militant organizations. On August 7, two active cadres of the Sorepa organization were apprehended in Kakching district. They were identified as Mayanglambam Nimaichand alias Panganba Meitei (25) and Mayanglambam Khoiraba alias Achouba Meitei (27).
On the same day, security forces arrested Akhoijam Shankar Singha (47), alias Chepta or Yumshangba, a member of the UNLF (P), from his residence in Silchar, Assam. He is accused of extorting money from truck drivers on National Highway-37 between Silchar and Imphal.
In the Moreh area of Tengnoupal district, two cadres of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, Chiroam Profolo Singh (30) and Maibam Sadanand (18), were also arrested. Additionally, during an operation in the Kwakethal Mayai Koibi area, an active member linked to RPF/PLA, Khangeimbam Subhash Singh (54), alias Thanil, was apprehended on similar extortion charges.
According to police, on August 8, an active member of KCP (Apunba), Konsam Boboy Singh (39), alias Boy, was arrested from the Lamdeng Khunou area. Similarly, in Bishnupur district, an active member of the KYKL organization, Naorem Priyokumar Singh (37), alias Naoba, was also taken into custody for alleged extortion activities.
To enhance security, a total of 112 checkpoints and posts have been established in the hilly and plain areas of Manipur. These locations are monitoring vehicles and suspicious activities.
The Manipur police have urged the public not to trust misleading videos, audio clips, and fake posts circulating on social media. They stated that the authenticity of any suspicious material can be verified by contacting the central control room at 9233522822.
The police warned that legal action will be taken against those who upload or disseminate fake content on social media. Furthermore, the public is encouraged to report any stolen weapons, ammunition, or explosive materials to the police or nearby security forces immediately.
