Bhopal, May 29: Rajya Sabha member and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijay Singh, has written to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, urging the reopening of Scheduled Caste girls’ and boys’ hostels that have been closed since 2016.
In his letter, Singh referenced issues raised by Dr. Jawar Singh Agar, the provincial president of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department Hostel/Asylum Teachers Association. He noted that various districts in Madhya Pradesh had shut down these hostels under the Scheduled Caste Department in 2016. As a result, underprivileged students from Scheduled Caste backgrounds in rural areas have been deprived of quality education and the benefits of various government welfare schemes.
The closure of these hostels has hindered the educational opportunities for students from marginalized communities, preventing them from accessing essential government programs.
Singh emphasized that these hostels were established to integrate students from weaker sections into the mainstream education system and provide them with better opportunities. Their closure has adversely affected the education of thousands of students and has disrupted the process of social and educational development.
He urged the Chief Minister to issue necessary directives to the relevant department to restart the girls’ and boys’ hostels that have been closed since 2016, keeping in mind the interests of Scheduled Caste students. This would ensure that children from poor and marginalized families in the state can fully benefit from education and government initiatives.
Singh expressed confidence that the state government would make a positive decision on this matter, considering the objectives of social justice and educational equality.
