Ujjain, August 4: During the auspicious month of Sawan, devotees across the country are performing water offerings at Shiva temples. On the sixth day of the Krishna Paksha in Shravan, the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal was held at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this divine event.
Early Tuesday morning, after seeking blessings from Lord Veerabhadra, the doors of Baba Mahakal were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba after the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the temple echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.
With the opening of the temple gates, the idol of Lord Mahakal was bathed in Panchamrit, made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices, amidst the chanting of mantras. Baba Mahakal was adorned with bhang, sandalwood, and jewelry.
The temple priests conducted the grand Aarti. Many devotees witnessed the Bhasma Aarti, having queued since the previous night to have a glimpse of their beloved deity. During the Bhasma Aarti, it is customary for men to wear traditional dhoti-sola and women to wear sarees.
On this occasion of Sawan, a significant number of devotees are also visiting the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. Due to the heavy influx of devotees, direct darshan is currently not being offered. On the first day of Sawan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Baba Vishwanath to offer his prayers.
