Imphal, August 4: Manipur’s Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, stated on Monday that despite facing numerous challenges, the government is sincerely working to restore lasting peace with the active cooperation of the people. He noted that positive signs of reform are beginning to emerge.
The Chief Minister spoke at the inauguration of a mega campaign under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Mission Spandan’ (spiritual partnership against drug abuse), which aims to pledge 10 crore people to remain drug-free. He emphasized that every citizen desires peace and normalcy.
This event was organized in Imphal’s Pheidinga by Brahma Kumaris, Manipur, in collaboration with their medical wing (Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation).
Khemchand Singh highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisions a ‘Developed India 2047′, aiming to position India among the world’s most developed nations. He stressed that this dream can only be realized if the youth stay away from drug addiction.
Sharing personal experiences from his visits to various regions of Manipur, the Chief Minister mentioned that he visited areas like Litton in Ukhrul district even under challenging circumstances. This demonstrates his government’s commitment to maintaining close contact with the people despite difficulties.
He explained how ethnic violence has affected displaced individuals from various communities, including Kukis, Meiteis, Hmars, and Paiteis, all of whom share the same desire to return home and live peacefully together.
During a visit to Jiribam, Khemchand Singh observed different communities sitting together and sharing meals, proving that people genuinely wish to coexist peacefully. However, he expressed concern that incidents of violence have repeatedly undermined reconciliation efforts.
Referring to events that hinder the peace process, he stated that such incidents only benefit those who seek to profit from conflict. He emphasized that these individuals do not represent any specific community but are driven by personal interests that oppose the restoration of peace.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister stated that restoring peace is the top priority, and there will be no compromise in ensuring justice and taking action against those responsible for crimes.
He appealed to every citizen to support the government in creating a necessary peaceful environment to achieve the vision of ‘Developed India 2047’, fostering mutual trust and harmony.
During the event, the Chief Minister honored BK Neelima, in charge of Brahma Kumaris in Manipur, with the ‘Universal Peace Ambassador Award’ for her contributions to spiritual service and social welfare. He also launched a campaign voucher as part of the inauguration ceremony.
Participants took a pledge for a drug-free India, committing to stay away from narcotics and raise awareness against substance abuse.
The state’s Home Minister, Konthoujam Govindas Singh, and other dignitaries also attended the event.
