Ujjain, August 8: During the holy month of Sawan, devotees are flocking to Shiva temples for water offerings. On Saturday, the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal was performed at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple, attracting a large number of devotees eager to witness this divine spectacle.
Early Saturday morning, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal after the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the temple echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and the recitation of mantras.
With the opening of the Mahakal temple, amidst the chanting, Baba Mahakal was bathed with Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. Baba Mahakal was adorned with the moon on his forehead and decorated with sacred ash. Offerings of fruits and sweets were presented to him.
The temple priest conducted the grand Aarti, allowing many devotees to witness the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal. A significant number of devotees had queued since the previous night to have a glimpse of their revered deity. During the Bhasma Aarti, it is customary for men to wear traditional dhoti and women to wear sarees.
On this occasion of Sawan, a large number of devotees are also visiting the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. Due to the overwhelming influx of devotees, direct viewing is not being permitted. On the first day of Sawan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Baba Vishwanath to offer prayers.
