New Delhi, August 1: On the third day of the Shravan Mela, a significant influx of devotees was observed at the Baidyanath Temple in Devghar, Jharkhand. Thousands of kanwariyas and Lord Shiva devotees lined up on Saturday to perform the sacred water offering during the holy month of Sawan.
The pilgrimage, which officially commenced on July 30, has transformed Devghar into a vibrant center of devotion, attracting pilgrims dressed in saffron attire. Visitors expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and noted that despite the large crowds, their pilgrimage experience remained smooth.
Pilgrims reported reduced waiting times and took advantage of the facilities provided during the auspicious month, enjoying the festive atmosphere while performing the water offering. One devotee shared with a news agency, “The arrangements are excellent. There are great facilities for everything. We faced no difficulties.”
The Shravan Mela will continue until August 28, with expectations of 3.5 to 5.5 million devotees visiting during this month. Extensive measures have been put in place to manage the crowds, including crowd control strategies, medical facilities, drinking water, sanitation services, and other amenities for the pilgrims.
A similar atmosphere of devotion is also evident in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, where devotees from various parts of the country are arriving. They are taking Ganga water to their destinations to perform the water offering to Lord Shiva.
The holy month of Sawan holds significant religious importance for devotees of Lord Shiva. During this time, millions flock to temples across the country to worship, perform water offerings, and participate in special rituals. As the pilgrimage season intensifies, the flow of devotees to major pilgrimage sites like Devghar and Haridwar continues unabated.
