Chennai, August 1: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, arrived in Chennai on Saturday. He is set to participate in the concluding session of a training camp for district presidents of the Tamil Nadu Congress, held near Mamallapuram. His focus will be on strengthening the party organization in the state and revitalizing grassroots efforts.
Upon his arrival at Chennai Airport, Congress leaders and workers warmly welcomed Rahul Gandhi. Notable attendees included Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President Manickam Tagore, Minister P. Vishwanathan, and other senior party officials. From the airport, Rahul Gandhi proceeded to Mamallapuram, where the Tamil Nadu Congress has been conducting a training program for its district-level leadership since July 23.
The camp includes participation from 74 district Congress committee presidents and is being held at a resort near Mamallapuram. Rahul Gandhi will engage with the district presidents during the closing day, discussing organizational and political matters.
According to party sources, this discussion will take place behind closed doors, with no outside access allowed. It is anticipated that Rahul Gandhi will address strategies to strengthen the Congress at the booth and district levels, preparing the organization for future political challenges in Tamil Nadu.
This meeting holds significance as the Congress party aims to bolster its position in the state following its return to power-sharing in the Tamil Nadu government after nearly six decades.
Reports indicate that Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to hold a separate meeting with key party officials around 4 PM, where discussions on the organizational status and future strategy of the party in Tamil Nadu are expected.
After the program, Rahul Gandhi will depart from Chennai for New Delhi around 7 PM.
