New Delhi, June 12: A crucial meeting was held to review the progress of major environmental and infrastructure projects in Delhi, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Tarunjeet Singh Sandhu. The discussions focused on the Yamuna Riverfront Development, the revival of water bodies, preparations to prevent flooding before the monsoon, and the status of significant socio-economic infrastructure projects in the capital.
Lieutenant Governor Sandhu provided insights through an ex-post report, detailing the review of the ‘Action Taken Report’ on key projects related to the environment and infrastructure across Delhi. The meeting, attended by officials from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) at the Yamuna Sports Complex, emphasized comprehensive plans to enhance the Yamuna Riverfront and adjacent ghats, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a sustainable and world-class capital.
The review also assessed the restoration of 101 water bodies under Phase 1, which includes major projects in Dwarka and Rohini. Additionally, the progress of large socio-economic infrastructure projects, such as hospitality, healthcare, luxury retail, and logistics hubs, was meticulously examined.
To ensure readiness before the monsoon, there was intensive monitoring of the ‘Desilting Action Plan 2026’ in critical zones and flood-prone areas. Preparations for the Central Flood Control Room were also evaluated ahead of the June 15 deadline. Timely implementation of these initiatives is essential for building a strong, progressive, and developed Delhi.
Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor inspected the on-site rainwater harvesting system at the Yamuna Sports Complex. He noted that this system serves as a model for sustainable groundwater recharge within Delhi’s civic infrastructure, which could be replicated elsewhere. Enhancing and expanding such water conservation methods is crucial for advancing our shared vision of a resilient capital and a developed Delhi.
