Hazaribagh, June 21: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, police in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand, seized 1.55 kilograms of opium, ₹700,000 in cash, a car, and a motorcycle. Three individuals were arrested, while one suspect remains at large, prompting ongoing searches.
Police received a tip-off about traffickers planning to buy and sell opium in the Chouparan police area. Following verification of this information, a special team was formed under the leadership of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters). A vehicle inspection campaign was then launched near Loharbarwa in the Chouparan area.
Efforts were made to stop a white Bolero coming from the Barhi direction. Upon seeing the police, the driver attempted to evade capture by turning the vehicle around. However, police successfully surrounded and stopped the vehicle, arresting two individuals onboard.
The arrested suspects were identified as Puna Ram and Ram Lal. A search of the vehicle revealed ₹700,000 in cash, packed in plastic, hidden under the middle seat. During interrogation, both suspects admitted they were heading to Aheri village in the Chouparan area to purchase opium.
Following their lead, police conducted a raid in Aheri village, where they discovered 1.55 kilograms of opium stored in various packets at the residence of Rahul Kumar Khewaar. He was arrested at the scene.
Another suspect, Arvind Kumar, fled upon seeing the police during the raid. However, his Apache motorcycle was seized. Police are conducting searches at potential hideouts to apprehend him. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Chouparan police station regarding this case.
The arrested individuals face charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The process of sending all suspects into judicial custody is underway.
