New Delhi, August 20: A review meeting was held to discuss preparations for the upcoming BRICS Summit 2026. This information was shared by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Tarunjeet Singh Sandhu.
Sandhu took to the social media platform ‘X’ to announce, “I chaired a review meeting on Delhi’s preparations for the upcoming BRICS Summit 2026. Emphasizing the importance of Delhi’s selection for the summit, we discussed national vision and priorities, and the need for better coordination among various agencies at all levels to complete tasks on time.”
He further stated, “All relevant departments and agencies have been instructed to ensure smooth traffic and security arrangements at key locations and transit routes, as well as city maintenance and emergency medical preparations. In line with our age-old tradition of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava,’ Delhi is fully prepared to welcome all representatives in an organized, secure, and warm manner.”
India will lead the 18th BRICS Summit, set to take place in New Delhi on September 12-13, 2026. This will mark India’s fourth time presiding over the BRICS summit. Key topics for this meeting will include economic cooperation, global governance reform, trade in local currencies, and sustainable development.
On August 15, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), urged the NDMC team to remain committed, professional, and prepared for the upcoming BRICS summit.
On August 18, in Mumbai, Brazil’s Consul General, Jose Mauro da Fonseca Costa Couto, remarked, “The most interesting aspect of this regular meeting among top government officials from BRICS countries is that we get a chance to meet privately without interference from European or Western nations.”
Couto added, “This allows us to share interesting ideas on improving the world, enhancing the functioning of international institutions, preserving our forests and water resources, and boosting trade among developing countries.”
