Indian Parliamentary Delegation Heads to Tanzania for 153rd IPU Assembly

Arusha, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : A parliamentary delegation from India, under the leadership of Rajya Sabha Vice Chairman Harivansh, departed for Arusha, Tanzania, on Saturday. The delegation will attend the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and related meetings from October 5 to 9.

According to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, members from parliaments around the globe will gather for this assembly. The theme for this year’s event is “Promoting Good Governance and Empowering Communities through Inclusiveness, Trust, and Opportunities.”

The Indian delegation includes notable members such as Lok Sabha representatives Anurag Thakur, Aparajita Sarangi, Rajya Sabha member Sasmit Patra, and Lok Sabha members Sanjay Jaiswal, Kamaljeet Sahrawat, Lata Wankhede, Bijuli Kalita Medhi, and N.K. Premachandran.

During their time in Tanzania, the delegation will participate in various meetings, panel discussions, and workshops related to pressing global issues. They will also present India’s perspective on a range of topics.

Vice Chairman Harivansh is set to engage in discussions at the Governing Council, general discussions, and emergency topics, as well as meetings with candidates for the IPU presidency.

Delegation members will take part in discussions covering democracy, human rights, peace and international security, sustainable development, women’s participation, science and technology, counter-terrorism, health, and mental health.

Additional topics for discussion will include critical minerals, artificial intelligence, the future of work, maritime security, climate change, and the conservation of mountain and marine ecosystems.

The Rajya Sabha Secretariat emphasized that the Indian delegation’s participation reflects India’s ongoing engagement with the IPU and its commitment to parliamentary diplomacy. It also underscores India’s dedication to multilateral dialogue and cooperation on issues related to global peace, development, democracy, and community empowerment.
