Netanyahu Invites Indian Pilot to Israels Independence Day Ceremony

New Delhi, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached out to Indian pilot Smrit Machhar late Saturday night, inviting him to participate in the upcoming Independence Day celebrations in Israel. According to the Prime Minister’s office, Netanyahu expressed his desire for Captain Smrit to light the torch at the event.

During their conversation, Netanyahu stated, “I would like Captain Smrit and PM Modi to hold the flame of celebration on our Independence Day. It is our greatest honor. We usually reserve this for Israeli citizens, but in this case, all Israeli citizens will embrace you.”

Captain Smrit Machhar, currently based in Dubai, recently averted a major disaster while flying a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. After being attacked by his co-pilot in the cockpit, he managed to open the cockpit door despite sustaining serious injuries, allowing passengers and crew members to intervene and save lives.

Earlier, Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, visited Captain Machhar in the hospital on Saturday to commend his bravery. Following their meeting, he posted on social media platform X, praising Machhar for exemplifying courage and responsibility. “We are proud that he is part of our team,” he wrote.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE previously reported that Captain Machhar’s condition is improving. The embassy confirmed that they are in contact with his family and local authorities, providing all possible support for his treatment and swift recovery.
