Iran to Challenge US Seizure of Ship as War Crime in International Court

Tehran, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : A senior Iranian shipping official announced that Iran will pursue legal action in international courts regarding the seizure of one of its container ships by the United States. This incident occurred during a ceasefire between Tehran and Washington, as reported by the official news agency IRNA.

Mohammad-Reza Modarres Khiyabani, CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), stated during a meeting in Tehran that US forces boarded the Iranian-flagged vessel, “Toska,” near Chabahar Port in the Gulf of Oman on April 19. He labeled the seizure as a “war crime.”

According to the Xinhua news agency, the ship was carrying medications for patients from the Iranian Red Crescent Society and dialysis patients. Attacking a commercial vessel during a ceasefire is a violation of international law, Modarres emphasized.

He further asserted that imposing any form of naval blockade constitutes a breach of international law and is an act of hostility. Modarres accused the US Navy of attacking the engine room of the Toska and taking 28 crew members hostage.

In response, US President Donald Trump declined to disclose his next steps regarding Iran, stating that the situation is progressing well and predicting that the conflict will not last long. Speaking to reporters before departing on Marine One from the White House, Trump suggested that revealing his plans would make for a major news story.

“If I told you, you’d have a big story, right? But you’ll see. Everything is going very well. Iran is not doing well,” he remarked. However, he did not elaborate on what actions his administration might consider or provide a timeline. Later in the same conversation, Trump mentioned efforts to boost global energy supplies and increase diesel availability in Europe, reiterating his concerns about Iran.
