
New Delhi, July 1: The Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of the East District Police arrested a 20-year-old man on Wednesday. He was found in possession of a semi-automatic pistol and two live cartridges. Officials stated that this operation thwarted a potential violent crime.
According to a press release from the East District Police, the suspect has been identified as Lakshya Chawla, alias Lucky, a resident of East Vinod Nagar.
The police reported that a case has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Pandav Nagar police station.
This operation was part of the ongoing efforts by the Delhi Police to combat the illegal possession and supply of firearms in the national capital.
The press release stated, “The AATS of the East District has arrested a suspect for illegal possession of arms and ammunition. A semi-automatic pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from him.”
Authorities indicated that the arrest was made following specific intelligence regarding an individual carrying illegal weapons in the East Vinod Nagar area on June 28.
Upon receiving the information, an AATS team set up a trap near the DTC bus depot in East Vinod Nagar and apprehended the suspect.
The release noted, “With the capture of the suspect, the operation was successfully completed. During the search, a semi-automatic pistol and two live cartridges were recovered.”
During interrogation, the suspect revealed that he purchased the weapon to settle personal scores.
The police mentioned, “The suspect disclosed that he acquired the recovered pistol to take revenge on a rival due to an old feud and for personal protection.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation to trace the source of the weapon and identify any potential criminal connections of the suspect.
This operation was conducted under the leadership of Inspector Anand Singh, in overall supervision by ACP (Operations) Pawan Kumar. The team included SI Vikram Singh, SI Sandeep Singh, SI Devendra Kumar, ASI Rajiv Kumar, ASI Munendra, ASI Praveen, ASI Satyaveer, ASI Deepak Tyagi, Head Constable Vikrant, and Head Constable Ashwini.
The police stated that this successful operation reflects a commitment to intelligence-based policing and preventive action against illegal firearms.
The press release further stated, “Timely action has prevented the potential misuse of illegal weapons and strengthened preventive policing efforts.”
The suspect was found with a semi-automatic pistol and two live cartridges. The police are now investigating whether he had any ties to a criminal gang and if he intended to use the weapon to commit a crime.
