Maharashtra Takes Action Against Illegal IVF and Sonography Centers

Mumbai, July 1: The Maharashtra government is taking significant steps against unauthorized IVF and sonography centers operating without permission. Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar announced in the assembly that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be formed to conduct raids on these illegal facilities across the state. Strict actions will be taken against centers violating regulations.

This information was provided by Minister Abitkar in response to a question raised by Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi during the assembly session.

The minister stated that the state government is preparing to treat these issues with greater seriousness. He mentioned that there is also a consideration to bring the crimes associated with unauthorized IVF and sonography centers under the Maharashtra Organized Crime Control Act.

Abitkar emphasized that the government aims to introduce necessary legislation by the next assembly session to enable stricter legal actions against those involved in such cases.

He pointed out that a significant number of IVF and sonography centers are being opened unnecessarily in the state. Many of these centers operate without the required permissions, leading to ongoing cases of fraud against unsuspecting patients.

He clarified that the newly formed SIT will monitor these centers statewide. The team’s primary objectives will be to identify unauthorized centers, take action against them, prevent fraud against patients, and protect the interests of the public.

The Maharashtra government believes that this initiative will enhance transparency in healthcare services, curb the operations of illegally run centers, and strengthen the trust of patients seeking treatment.
