Pakistan Must Abandon Terrorism for Dialogue, Says Syed Naseeruddin Chishti

Ajmer, July 2: Syed Naseeruddin Chishti, the successor of the Ajmer Dargah and Chairman of the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council, has taken a firm stance on India-Pakistan peace talks. He stated that India has always favored dialogue, but until Pakistan demonstrates a solid commitment to completely eradicate terrorism, any discussions would be meaningless.

In a conversation in Ajmer, Chishti emphasized, “The Indian government has consistently maintained that all disputes should be resolved at the negotiation table. India has clearly communicated to Pakistan that dialogue and terrorism cannot coexist.” He questioned the intentions behind a letter signed by 117 individuals, suggesting that they know their true motives better.

Chishti clarified that while dialogue is welcome, it would be futile as long as Pakistan continues to harbor terrorists and engage in terrorist activities. Referring to Pakistan’s recent mediation efforts between the U.S. and Iran, he remarked that this does not change Pakistan’s dark association with terrorism.

He pointed out that it is common for terrorists to roam freely at public events, funerals, and government functions in Pakistan. Individuals accused of terrorism by the United Nations are often seen openly in Pakistan. “How can we engage in talks and trust a country like this?” he questioned.

Chishti cited several incidents, including the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, where innocent civilians, youth, and soldiers have lost their lives. He noted that Pakistan has a history of sitting at the negotiation table while simultaneously orchestrating terrorist attacks.

He concluded that until Pakistan decides to genuinely eliminate terrorism from its heart and mind, there is no hope for positive outcomes from any dialogue. Recently, 117 prominent figures from both nations wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif, urging the resumption of talks and the restoration of normal relations.
