St. Petersburg, June 6: Russian air defense forces successfully intercepted 144 Ukrainian drones during an aerial assault in the Leningrad region. This information was shared by the region’s governor, Alexander Drozdenko, on social media on Saturday.
Drozdenko reported that there was no significant damage. However, debris from the drones fell in several districts, causing minor damage to homes.
According to Xinhua news agency, Drozdenko mentioned that the attack resulted in a fire at a Russian Defense Ministry facility in the Lomonosovsky district. Four local residents received medical assistance due to the fire, with one person hospitalized and three others, including a child, treated on-site.
Regional authorities indicated that over 600 people were evacuated from the security zone surrounding the facility. Drozdenko confirmed that the fire has been extinguished and emergency recovery operations have been completed.
Earlier in the day, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov reported that three individuals were injured in a separate Ukrainian drone attack on the city. He noted that the injuries were minor, and the victims have since been discharged from the hospital.
This incident marks the second significant drone attack in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region since the commencement of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum this year.
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian drone attack ignited a fire at an oil depot in the Krasnodar region’s Ust-Labinsk. The regional operational headquarters reported that 60 residents from nearby homes were evacuated, with no casualties reported.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that air defense systems destroyed 376 Ukrainian UAVs overnight across various areas. Residents of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region reported hearing loud explosion-like sounds since Saturday morning.
Despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposal for negotiations to end the war, Russian President Vladimir Putin has shown no willingness to meet with him face-to-face at this time.
