Mumbai, June 7: Venezuela’s Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, recently met with senior officials from the Tata Group at Bombay House in Mumbai. During her visit, she reviewed Tata Motors’ latest electric vehicles and gained insights into their technology and features.
Girish Wagh, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors, along with other senior executives, welcomed Rodríguez.
The meeting focused on advanced technology in electric vehicles and discussed new opportunities in this sector. Rodríguez also inquired about the Tata Group’s progress at the Tata Experience Center.
Following her visit, reports indicate that India and Venezuela are exploring ways to deepen their energy cooperation. Both countries aim to leverage the changing dynamics of the global oil market and strengthen their long-term engagement in the hydrocarbon sector.
A report from Modern Diplomacy noted that India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, expressed that Indian companies are ready to increase their participation in Venezuela’s oil and gas industry.
This dialogue comes at a time when India has emerged as a major buyer of Venezuelan crude oil again, following the easing of sanctions earlier this year. The new purchases are helping Venezuela regain its position as a crucial supplier of crude oil to India.
Acting President Rodríguez’s visit emphasizes the need for long-term supply arrangements rather than relying heavily on spot purchases in Venezuela’s energy sector. Her trip included meetings with government officials and energy industry leaders.
This growing engagement reflects India’s strategy to diversify its crude oil purchases amid geopolitical uncertainties and tensions in West Asia that have raised concerns about supply disruptions and price volatility.
