Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to be Installed in Israel as a Symbol of Friendship

New Delhi, June 7: A statue and memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will be established in Israel. Israeli Consul General Yaniv Revach stated that this statue will symbolize the friendship between India and Israel. He also defended Israel’s security actions against attacks from Lebanon.

In a recent interview, Revach expressed his greetings to the people of India on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation ceremony. He acknowledged its significance and shared his insights on Indian history since his arrival a few months ago. Revach was impressed to discover the parallels between the histories of both nations, noting that Jews fought for decades to reclaim their homeland and establish their state.

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel last February, plans were made to inaugurate a significant project in India. A budget was allocated to deepen the relationship between the two countries. Instead of a typical cultural activity, they envisioned a goodwill project, leading to the idea of creating a statue of the Indian hero, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, to be sent to Israel.

This statue is intended to become a lasting symbol of friendship and inspiration between the peoples of Israel and India. The concept also reached the office of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who promptly agreed to meet with Revach and expressed his support for the project.

When asked about the statue’s placement and the promotion of Shivaji Maharaj’s culture in Israel, Revach emphasized that they would find a talented artist to create a remarkable statue. They are currently in discussions with several municipalities in Israel regarding the statue’s location. Additionally, they are considering translating Shivaji’s writings into Hebrew to educate people about his legacy.

Revach highlighted the long-standing friendship between India and Israel, noting their collaboration in various sectors such as defense and automotive. He believes that sharing cultural values globally will enhance recognition and respect for both nations.

On the topic of Iran’s involvement in Lebanon, Revach stated that Hezbollah has been attacking Israelis near the Lebanese border without justification. He reiterated that Israel seeks peace with the Lebanese government and people, emphasizing that the ongoing conflict is fueled by Iranian support for militant groups.

In response to allegations of sovereignty violations by Iran’s ambassador, Revach clarified that Israel has no territorial disputes with Lebanon. He stressed the need for Israel to protect its citizens from ongoing attacks.
