
New Delhi, August 16: In a significant relief for women commuters, the Delhi government has extended the current paper-based ‘Pink Ticket’ system for free travel on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses until August 31. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced this decision on Sunday.
The minister further stated that starting September 1, the Pink Sahyogi smart card will be mandatory to avail of the free travel facility.
This decision was made with the upcoming festivals and Raksha Bandhan in mind, ensuring that women travelers can travel comfortably during the festive season.
He also mentioned that this extension provides eligible women with additional time to obtain their Pink Sahyogi smart cards.
Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasized that the festive season, particularly Raksha Bandhan, is a time when mothers, sisters, and daughters travel to meet their families. Keeping their convenience in mind, the Delhi government decided to extend the current arrangement until August 31.
He reiterated that the priority is to ensure that no eligible woman traveler faces any inconvenience during this transition.
According to the revised arrangement, eligible women can continue to obtain paper-based pink tickets until August 31 and benefit from free travel on DTC buses. From September 1, free travel will only be available through a valid Pink Sahyogi smart card.
Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh reported that a total of 1,813,866 Pink Sahyogi smart cards have been issued so far.
He instructed the transport department to widely promote the revised deadline among depot managers, regional managers, conductors, and enforcement staff, encouraging women travelers to obtain their cards before August 31.
Awareness campaigns will be conducted through announcements in depots and buses, social media, print media, and other channels.
Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government is committed to making public transport accessible, convenient, and technology-driven. He urged all eligible women travelers to obtain their Pink Sahyogi smart cards before August 31 to continue enjoying seamless free travel from September 1, 2026.
