Abhishek Banerjee Blames BJP for Ashish Banerjees Suicide

Kolkata, August 16: Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress and MP from Diamond Harbour, took to social media on Sunday to hold the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the media responsible for the suicide of former West Bengal minister and ex-Deputy Speaker Ashish Banerjee.
Referring to the suicide note found with the deceased, Abhishek claimed that the contents reflected the exaggerated accusations propagated by certain factions of the BJP and the media.
He stated, “His final note raises serious and troubling questions about the ongoing smear campaign he endured. The BJP and certain media outlets should reflect on the consequences of such politics, where allegations are inflated, personal dignity is questioned, and individuals are condemned in the court of public opinion before the truth emerges. Those involved in this smear campaign must consider the human repercussions of their words and actions. Political battles may come and go, but a life once lost cannot be reclaimed.”
Abhishek expressed that the news of Banerjee’s suicide was not only heartbreaking but also a wake-up call for those who believe that politics and journalism should have their limits.
In his post, he wrote, “Ashish da, a lifelong teacher and public servant, dedicated decades to serving the people with integrity, respect, and simplicity. He was a revered figure and a source of pride for Rampurhat and the entire Birbhum district.”
According to him, West Bengal has lost one of its most esteemed sons due to Ashish Banerjee’s tragic end. Abhishek extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, students, admirers, and well-wishers, praying for strength during this unimaginable sorrow.
In a handwritten suicide note written in Bengali, the deceased leader mentioned that entering politics was a mistake and asserted that he had never engaged in any corrupt activities throughout his political career.
The note stated, “I have been involved in politics since my student life. I have never participated in any corruption. I became the General Secretary of the student union at Burdwan University, and I was not involved in any corruption there either. Political debates have occurred, but they never turned into enmity. While I could not always accept the injustices within the party, I also could not protest. I have never taken a single penny in exchange for any work throughout my life.”
