Tehran, August 16: Iran claims it is facing not only military threats but also persistent cyber attacks. The country’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Sattar Hashemi, stated on Sunday that cyber assaults continue amidst recent conflicts.
According to a report by Iran’s official news agency IRNA, Hashemi remarked, “We are grappling with conditions akin to war. We are under constant cyber attacks, but our team is working around the clock to counter these threats. Our youth and knowledgeable individuals have managed these attacks effectively and securely.”
He also noted that the methods of these attacks evolve over time. He explained that Iran’s experience in thwarting cyber attacks has significantly mitigated these issues and thwarted the ‘enemies’ objectives.
On Saturday, Iran and Oman reached an agreement regarding commercial maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz, although discussions on some technical aspects are still ongoing. Currently, both nations have not finalized any agreement.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei stated that negotiations have progressed well over the past three weeks. Both countries are also deliberating on the wording of a joint statement.
Baghaei further mentioned, “Discussions are still ongoing on several issues, particularly regarding the joint statement to be issued by Iran and Oman. Once a decision is made, everyone will be informed.”
Reports from Iranian officials indicate that both coastal nations have agreed on a “shipping map” for vessels passing through the strait. Further discussions will address remaining technical aspects. Iran and Oman conducted separate negotiations on this matter, with the United States not being involved.
The proposed framework aims to ensure safe passage for vessels while preserving the sovereignty and rights of both countries. The Iranian spokesperson did not clarify details regarding toll collection and security provisions.
However, the agreement on the route does not imply that the strait will immediately reopen for normal commercial traffic.
