Kolkata, August 16: A new complaint has been filed against Kolkata businessman and real estate promoter Joy Kamdar. Earlier this year, Kamdar was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for his alleged involvement in multiple land grab cases.
This time, Joy and his brother Tushar are accused of defrauding individuals by promising them a share in business ventures. Consequently, a complaint has been lodged against the Kamdar brothers and their company, Sun Constructions, by a resident of Ashwini Dutta Road.
The complainant claims that he was promised 25% of the total profits if he arranged for a specific property. After hearing this, the complainant organized a housing project on an expensive property on Nepal Bhattacharya Street, leading to a written agreement and the commencement of construction work.
Allegations state that after the construction was completed, the accused attempted to remove the complainant by offering a minimal amount, without fulfilling the terms of the agreement. They also reportedly refused to adhere to the contract’s conditions.
The complainant asserts that Joy and Tushar fraudulently seized the property. Following this revelation, a complaint was filed under criminal conspiracy and fraud. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
This incident comes as Joy Kamdar has approached the ED, which is investigating him for land grab cases, seeking to become a government witness.
According to sources, Kamdar’s lawyer has also filed a formal application in a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Kolkata, where the case is currently being heard.
It remains unclear whether the ED will accept Kamdar’s request or if the court will grant him the status of a government witness.
The special PMLA court has given the central investigative agency until August 25 to respond to this proposal.
This case is linked to an alleged nexus involving land grabbing, with Kamdar, notorious land mafia leader Biswajit Poddar, also known as Sona Pappu, and former deputy commissioner of Kolkata Police Shantanu Sinha Biswas implicated.
Kamdar was arrested in April, while Sinha Biswas and Poddar were taken into custody in May. Investigators claim that the trio amassed significant illegal earnings from their land grabbing activities.
