New Delhi, May 2: The Delhi Capitals achieved a remarkable victory against the Rajasthan Royals, winning by seven wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. This match marked the largest win in IPL history for the Capitals, chasing a target of 226 runs. Head coach Hemang Badani dedicated this victory to two young fans who are no longer with us.
Tragically, the two fans, Yagya Bhatia and Abhav Bhatia, lost their lives in a recent accident. The cousins died on April 27 after attending a match at Arun Jaitley Stadium against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. They were involved in a hit-and-run incident while returning home.
In a video shared on social media after the win against the Royals, Badani expressed, “This victory is dedicated to those two boys (Yagya and Abhav) who are unfortunately no longer with us. This win is for them. I believe you all made them proud. They were huge fans of DC and have been with us for some time. You might have seen their pictures on Instagram. This victory is for them.”
Badani also addressed the players in the dressing room, urging them to remember the two fans whose support had made them well-known figures among the DC fanbase.
Captain Axar Patel also acknowledged the incident after the match. He stated, “I want to express my deepest condolences for the tragic event involving our fans after the last match. I want to dedicate this win to them. They were two members of our DC family.”
According to police reports, the accident occurred on Ashoka Road when a truck allegedly struck the cousins’ motorcycle near the Mahadev Road T-point and fled the scene. Both victims were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
Yagya (20) and Abhav (14), residents of Ashok Nagar, were active members of the ‘DC Toli’ supporters group and had built a strong identity among fellow fans with their enthusiastic support for the franchise.
