New Delhi, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Delhi BJP workers staged a protest outside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office in central Delhi, calling for the expulsion of municipal councillor Vijay Kumar. This demand follows the tragic suicide of sanitation worker Deepak, who was allegedly linked to Kumar.
BJP MP Yogendra Chandolia addressed the crowd, while state vice-president Rajesh Bhatia coordinated the event. Sunil Yadav, another vice-president, managed the proceedings. Deepak’s wife, Sangeeta, joined the protest with their young daughter, seeking justice for her husband.
Protesters gathered at Windsor Place, chanting against Vijay Kumar, accusing him of pressuring Deepak into suicide. They later marched towards the AAP office, but police attempted to halt them with two barricades. Nevertheless, the demonstrators managed to break through.
The Delhi police subsequently detained several leaders, including Chandolia, MLA Ravindra Negi, and councillor Priyanka Gautam, taking them to Tilak Marg police station. They were released about an hour later after receiving a warning.
During the protest, Chandolia posed two direct questions to AAP’s leadership. He inquired why Arvind Kejriwal, Saurabh Bhardwaj, and Kuldeep Kumar remained silent despite serious allegations against councillor Vijay Kumar regarding the financial harassment of a sanitation worker. He also asked when AAP would expel Kumar from the party.
Chandolia emphasized that any form of injustice or exploitation against sanitation workers would not be tolerated. He stated that BJP activists would continue their protest, demanding a fair investigation, accountability for those responsible, and justice for Deepak’s family.
He urged AAP to provide clear answers to the serious questions raised instead of evading responsibility with political rhetoric. The protest saw participation from thousands of Delhi BJP officials, including members from various party fronts such as the Scheduled Caste Morcha and the Youth Morcha.
Chandolia concluded by highlighting the essential role of sanitation workers in keeping Delhi clean, insisting that any injustice against them is unacceptable.
