Brussels, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : India and the European Union (EU) engaged in discussions on Sunday regarding the implementation of priorities under their strategic partnership. The meeting took place in Brussels between Pranay Verma, India’s Ambassador to Belgium, and Pietro Ducci, the Director General for Foreign Policies at the European Parliament.
The Indian Embassy in Belgium shared details on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Ambassador Pranay Verma met with Pietro Ducci to exchange useful insights on India-EU inter-parliamentary engagement, high-level exchanges, and the implementation of priorities under the India-EU strategic partnership.”
The relationship between India and the EU was elevated to the level of a “strategic partnership” during the fifth India-EU summit held in The Hague in 2004. This partnership is rooted in shared values and principles such as democracy, the rule of law, a rules-based international order, and multilateralism.
India and the EU’s relationship is multifaceted, covering various sectors including trade and investment, technology and innovation, security and defense, connectivity, and global issues.
Earlier in July, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar made an official visit to Belgium, where he participated in the third India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) meeting alongside Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada.
During his visit, Dr. Jaishankar also met with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, to convey Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s best wishes. Following their meeting, he shared details on ‘X’, stating, “It was a pleasure to meet with President of the European Council Antonio Costa along with Minister Piyush Goyal, MOS Jitin Prasada, and Chief Scientific Advisor Prof. Ajay Sood. We recognized the significant progress in our partnership since the historic India-EU summit earlier this year and appreciated their guidance and warm sentiments to advance our trade and technology cooperation.”
Additionally, Dr. Jaishankar met with Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice President of the European Commission. He noted on ‘X’, “I began my visit to Brussels with a meeting with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas. We had useful discussions on the necessity of peace and stability in West Asia and exchanged views on the importance of secure and seamless maritime commerce. We also talked about advancing the India-EU strategic partnership to ensure resilience in supply chains.”
