New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Harsh Malhotra, the Delhi BJP President, visited the family of 54-year-old Manipuri singer Chongtham Vikram Singh on Tuesday, expressing his condolences following his tragic death in South East Delhi. Malhotra stated that the entire city stands in solidarity with the grieving family.
The BJP leader mentioned that he has spoken with senior police officials and is confident that all suspects have been apprehended. He assured that the charge sheet would be presented to the trial court as soon as possible.
Malhotra described the murder of the Manipuri artist as a horrific incident but emphasized that it does not have a racial angle. He urged opposition parties to refrain from politicizing the event and attempting to frame it in a racial context.
He also reassured the victim’s family that the Delhi government would recommend a special court for a speedy hearing of the case.
Authorities reported that the incident occurred early Monday morning outside an apartment in Kilokari village, near Ashram. A group of delivery workers and restaurant staff assaulted the musician after he objected to their loud behavior and drinking, leading to his death.
Police have arrested seven individuals in connection with the incident, along with one minor. The Sunlight Colony police station received a PCR call regarding the attack on Vikram Singh. Originally from Manipur, Singh had been living in Kilokari village for several years. Initial investigations revealed that Singh had confronted a group causing a disturbance outside his home.
Following the assault, Singh sustained serious injuries. According to officials, his son, Yaifaba, rushed him to Holy Family Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and Singh’s death.
The North East Students Society of Delhi University mourned Singh’s passing, honoring him as a respected Manipuri musician who had dedicated the last 20 years to his craft in the city.
