Muzaffarnagar, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Rakesh Tikait, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), has raised concerns over controversial posters that emerged in Muzaffarnagar around the anniversary of the 2013 riots. He criticized the BJP for allegedly reigniting communal tensions as the assembly elections approach, suggesting that such actions are aimed at gaining political advantage.
The posters, which reportedly incite emotions related to the riots, have sparked a debate about their origins. Tikait questioned who commissioned and displayed them, insisting that a thorough investigation is necessary. He emphasized that if such sensitive materials were placed without the administration’s knowledge, that too warrants scrutiny. Tikait suggested that government complicity might be at play.
He further claimed that the intention behind the posters is to remind the public of the 2013 riots, hoping to exploit these memories for political gain. However, he asserted that the people of Muzaffarnagar have learned from past experiences and are now more focused on development and pressing issues rather than being swayed by divisive tactics.
In a related issue concerning an action near a mosque in Saharanpur, Tikait expressed skepticism about claims of an old well being uncovered. He warned that discussions about the well could escalate into religious activities as elections draw near. While he acknowledged the need to verify the authenticity of any historical structure, he condemned the idea of turning it into an electoral issue.
Drawing a parallel between electoral politics and sports training, Tikait remarked that just as athletes prepare for competitions, political parties begin rehearsing their narratives as elections approach. He noted that for the BJP, issues surrounding Hindu-Muslim relations and mosques are integral to their electoral strategy, and urged the people of Muzaffarnagar to learn from previous experiences to avoid falling into the trap of communal polarization.
