President and Vice President Pay Tribute on Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastris Birth Anniversary

New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan honored Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on October 2, 2026. This year marks the 157th anniversary of Gandhi’s birth and the 122nd anniversary of Shastri’s.

President Murmu paid her respects at Raj Ghat, where she placed a floral tribute. On social media platform X, she expressed, “On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 157th birth anniversary, I pay my heartfelt tribute on behalf of all countrymen.”

In her message, the President highlighted the global respect for Gandhi’s life and ideals. She noted the ongoing unrest and conflict in various regions, emphasizing the relevance of Gandhi’s messages of peace and non-violence during such times. She stated, “As our nation progresses towards becoming a developed country by 2047, we prioritize sensitivity and inclusivity in our growth journey, ensuring no citizen is left behind. This aligns with Gandhi’s ideal of ‘Sarvodaya,’ which embodies the spirit of welfare and upliftment for all.”

Additionally, President Murmu paid tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat, commemorating his 122nd birth anniversary.

Vice President Radhakrishnan also honored Gandhi, stating on X, “Today, I paid tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, at Raj Ghat on his birth anniversary. His unwavering faith in truth and non-violence, commitment to justice, and deep belief in human dignity continue to inspire humanity. Gandhi’s life and message remain a lasting inspiration of peace, compassion, selflessness, and service. Let us reaffirm our commitment to the values he espoused and dedicate ourselves to building a just, harmonious, and inclusive society.”

He also paid homage to Shastri, emphasizing his legacy. “Today, on the occasion of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s birth anniversary at Vijay Ghat, I offered my tributes. A leader of quiet strength and extraordinary resolve, Shastri exemplified humility, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the nation. His leadership instilled confidence and unity at a pivotal moment in India’s journey, while his call of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ immortalized the sacrifices of our soldiers and the vital contributions of farmers. His life powerfully reminds us that true leadership lies in simplicity, courage, and service to the nation.”
