Gujarat Celebrates Mahatma Gandhis 157th Birth Anniversary with Interfaith Prayer in Porbandar

Porbandar, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : On October 2, 2026, Porbandar commemorated the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with a heartfelt tribute at the Kirtimandir, his birthplace. The event included an interfaith prayer meeting, a cherished tradition held annually in honor of the Father of the Nation. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel attended the ceremony, bowing his head in reverence and offering floral tributes to Gandhi.

During the interfaith prayer meeting, representatives from various religions came together to recite prayers and sing Gandhi’s favorite hymns. The atmosphere resonated with the ideals of Gandhi, reflecting on his principles of truth, non-violence, love, and equality among all religions.

Earlier in the day, CM Patel took to social media platform ‘X’ to pay his respects, writing, “On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who showed the world the path to peace through eternal ideals of truth, non-violence, and goodwill, I bow in reverence.”

He also emphasized Gandhi’s commitment to simplicity, cleanliness, khadi, and self-reliance, stating that these ideals continue to guide the nation towards becoming self-sufficient and developed. “Let us all embody the mantra of ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’ and commit ourselves to building a clean, prosperous, and capable nation,” he urged.

Additionally, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi paid homage to Gandhi, highlighting his role in awakening the Indian populace for freedom through the principles of truth, harmony, and non-violence.

BJP MP Devusinh Chauhan also expressed his tribute, stating, “On the birth anniversary of the great soul who paved the way for truth, non-violence, and peace for the whole world, I bow in reverence to Mahatma Gandhi.”
