Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh’s De De Pyaar De 2 recorded a solid opening weekend at the box office but failed to match the performance of the 2019 hit De De Pyaar De. The sequel collected ₹34.75 crore over its first weekend, falling short of the original’s opening weekend total of ₹37.24 crore.

The 2019 film had delivered an impressive opening with strong word of mouth, earning ₹9.11 crore on Day 1, ₹13.39 crore on Day 2 and ₹14.74 crore on Day 3.
In comparison, De De Pyaar De 2 began with ₹8.75 crore on Friday, showed a 40% jump on Saturday with ₹12.25 crore, and added ₹13.75 crore on Sunday. Despite the upward trend, the sequel remains behind the non-premiere weekend numbers of the first film.
Trade now looks at the crucial Monday collection to determine the film’s long-term trajectory. Although the second instalment features added star power including R. Madhavan, Meezaan Jaferi, Jaaved Jaaferi and Gautami Kapoor, it did not generate the same pre-release excitement. Music, promotions and buzz too remained comparatively muted.
Ajay Devgn’s next release will be Indra Kumar’s Dhamaal 4, where he reunites with Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaaferi and Sanjay Mishra. The actor is also expected to begin work on Drishyam 3 and Golmaal 5. (Daily Kiran)
