Marathi Film Swaas Breaks Box Office Records, Celebrates 10 Years of Success

Mumbai, April 29: It is rare for a film to earn 25 times its budget without featuring major stars. However, on this day in 2016, a Marathi film shattered all box office records. The film, titled ‘Swaas,’ is a touching love story intertwined with themes of caste discrimination. Today marks the 10th anniversary of its release.

Rinku Rajguru, who played the lead role in ‘Swaas,’ expressed her joy on this milestone. She shared several videos and photos related to the film. Alongside Rinku, Akash Thosar also starred in a pivotal role. In ‘Swaas,’ Rinku portrayed Archana ‘Archie’ Patil, while Akash played Prashant ‘Parshya’ Kale. Their characters, hailing from different castes, navigate the challenges of caste and class barriers to write their own love story, facing numerous obstacles from their families and society.

Directed by Nagraj Manjule, the film, based on honor killing, moved audiences to tears. Few anticipated its immense success post-release. With a modest budget of just 4 crores, ‘Swaas’ grossed an impressive 104 crores in India and 110 crores worldwide. It received an IMDb rating of 8.3 and even inspired a Hindi remake.

Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter made their cinematic debut with the remake ‘Dhadak,’ which was released in 2018. This film had a budget of around 40 crores but also managed to earn over 110 crores at the box office.
