Sydney, April 7: Former Australian opener David Warner is in hot water after being charged with drunk driving. The incident occurred during a routine roadside breath-testing operation in the suburb of Maroubra.
According to a report by news.com.au, the 39-year-old Warner parked his vehicle just before reaching the testing checkpoint. However, police approached his car and conducted a breath analysis, confirming that his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
Warner was taken into custody and brought to Maroubra Police Station, where his blood alcohol concentration was recorded at 0.104. He has been formally charged and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
The police statement noted, “At approximately 5:30 PM on April 5, 2026, officers were conducting random breath testing on Malabar Road in Maroubra. A van was reportedly seen stopping and parking just before the testing site. Officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and tested the 39-year-old driver roadside, which yielded a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a subsequent test confirmed a blood alcohol level of 0.104.”
The statement further mentioned, “The individual has been issued a notice to appear in court for driving with a medium-range PCA (prescribed concentration of alcohol). He is set to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, May 7, 2026.”
Notably, David Warner retired from international cricket in 2024 but remains active in franchise cricket. Currently, he is captaining Karachi Kings in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and returned to Australia for a brief period during the league’s break.
As one of Australia’s explosive opening batsmen, Warner has maintained his impact in domestic T20 competitions, including the Big Bash League (BBL). He recently had a stellar season with Sydney Thunder, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 433 runs in just eight matches.
In the PSL 2026, Warner has scored 93 runs at an average of 31 across three matches. His team, Karachi Kings, currently sits in second place on the points table with three consecutive wins. They are set to face Peshawar Zalmi at Karachi’s National Stadium on Thursday.
