London, July 22: Chelsea Football Club has officially signed England star Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. The Premier League club announced that the 23-year-old midfielder has committed to a seven-year deal, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.
Chelsea reportedly secured Rogers for a record fee of £117 million, making him the most expensive British player to date. This transfer surpasses the previous record set earlier this summer when Elliot Anderson joined Manchester City for £116 million.
In a statement released by the club, Rogers expressed his excitement, saying, “I am thrilled. For me, Chelsea is the biggest club in London, and it’s a club I have admired since childhood. Arsenal had identified Rogers as their top forward target during this transfer window. However, they declined to meet the transfer fee that Premier League champions Chelsea were willing to pay, preventing Arsenal from completing the deal.
Before joining Chelsea, Morgan Rogers established himself as one of the most talented young attacking players in the Premier League. During his time at Aston Villa, he made a significant impact, contributing to 40 goals in 85 Premier League matches through goals and assists. His impressive performances helped the team secure a top-four finish in the league last season and ultimately win the UEFA Europa League title.
