Ahmedabad, June 1: The Gujarat Titans (GT) faced a disappointing defeat in the IPL 2026 final against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), scoring only 155 runs while losing 8 wickets. Notably, there were no boundaries hit during the first 40 balls of GT’s innings, marking the longest span without a boundary in IPL final history.
Previously, the record was held by the Deccan Chargers, who went 35 balls without a boundary against RCB in 2009. The Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings are tied for third place, each with a streak of 29 balls without a boundary in their respective matches.
GT finally hit their first boundary in the 5.5 over, followed by another in the 12.4 over. Overall, the innings featured 15 fours and 3 sixes.
The match, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, started poorly for the Gujarat Titans. They lost their captain Shubman Gill (10) in just 2.2 overs, with the team only managing to score 22 runs at that point.
The team continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Jos Buttler (19) and Nishant Sandhu (20) added 29 runs for the third wicket, while Arshad Khan (15) partnered with Washington Sundar for 26 runs for the fifth wicket. A partnership of 27 runs was formed between Jason Holder and Washington Sundar for the seventh wicket.
Washington Sundar remained unbeaten with 50 runs off 37 balls, including 5 fours. Rasikh Salam Dar from the opposing team took the most wickets, claiming 3, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood each took 2 wickets. Krunal Pandya also contributed with 1 wicket.
Both RCB and GT aimed to secure their second IPL title. GT won their first title in 2022, while RCB claimed the championship in 2025.
