Thiruvananthapuram, May 27: A significant uproar occurred outside the residence of former Chief Minister and current opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram. CPI(M) workers attacked vehicles belonging to Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials as they protested against the central agency. This incident followed ED’s search operations at ten locations in Kerala related to the ‘Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited’ (CMRL) case.
During the chaos, one police officer sustained injuries while attempting to control the crowd. Reports indicate that the ED officials had completed their search at Vijayan’s residence. As they were leaving, party workers blocked their vehicles. The police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Allegations arose that CPI(M) activists damaged three ED vehicles and hurled stones before the convoy could exit.
Despite the turmoil, ED officials managed to depart from the residence of Pinarayi Vijayan. Speaking to the media regarding the ED’s search, Vijayan stated that the agency had long desired to conduct a search at his home. He suggested that this action might satisfy certain individuals, particularly Rahul Gandhi, who had previously questioned why no raid was conducted at his residence and why Vijayan had not been arrested. He accused the BJP government of systematically targeting opposition leaders, leading to widespread protests across the country.
Vijayan further remarked that the Congress party seems to believe that the ED’s interference should only target parties other than their own. He asserted that such actions would not diminish their resolve. “We view this as just the beginning. No one should think that these steps can erase our presence. The sentiments of local residents and party members were evident today. Whenever adversaries prepare to attack me, I receive unwavering support from my party. Today’s events demonstrated that this support remains strong, and that is our strength. Together, we are ready to face any challenge,” he concluded.
