Patna, June 6: Union Minister Giriraj Singh addressed the ongoing controversy regarding the security of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. He stated that there is no personal enmity against them. However, he emphasized that there are specific rules governing government security. If they fall under these regulations, they should receive protection.
Singh further explained that the government believes Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi do not meet the criteria for security. He questioned how security could be provided under these circumstances. As a minister, he noted that it would not be appropriate for him to protest for Z-category security. There are established rules for Z and Z-plus security classifications.
He remarked that members of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are fighting for status symbols. If that is the case, they should address their concerns to the Chief Minister. Singh reiterated that security is granted based on government regulations and the actual need for protection.
JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Prasad commented on the withdrawal of security from Lalu and Rabri, stating that the RJD will gain nothing from pressure tactics. Security provided to politicians is periodically evaluated by the state security policy. After assessing the threat level, security classifications are determined. This is a process that everyone should respect.
JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar mentioned that internal strife within the family is due to the Legislative Council elections. He noted that the government has formally provided security. He criticized the family for keeping the position confined within themselves and suggested returning the benefits received as the opposition leader in the Legislative Council. He also accused them of not returning land taken in exchange for jobs, at least to family members.
RJD leader Mitunjay Tiwari condemned the situation as petty politics. He highlighted Lalu Yadav’s significant reputation not only in Bihar but across the country. Tiwari claimed that attempts are being made to evict Lalu and Rabri from their residence and reduce their security, which would ultimately harm them.
