New Delhi, August 29: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of using Dalit issues for political advantage and attempting to create divisions within society. During a press conference held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Saturday, national spokesperson Guru Prakash Paswan and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi launched a sharp attack on Congress and Rahul Gandhi’s political tactics.
Guru Prakash Paswan stated that Congress and Rahul Gandhi are trying to divide society through false narratives. He claimed that a recent issue raised by Rahul Gandhi, which he linked to caste, had no actual connection to it. Paswan alleged that Congress merely uses the Dalit community as a vote bank, while historically, Dalit leaders have not received due respect within the party.
He cited examples of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, Kumari Selja, and others, highlighting the discriminatory attitude towards Dalit leaders within Congress. Paswan emphasized that while Congress talks about Dalit dignity, its record in practice tells a different story.
The BJP spokesperson remarked on the historical treatment of leaders like Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, Babu Jagjivan Ram, Kanshiram, and Sitaram Kesari by Congress. He claimed that Babu Jagjivan Ram did not receive his rightful political respect, and Babasaheb Ambedkar was not awarded the Bharat Ratna during Congress rule. Paswan noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the BJP has developed sites associated with Ambedkar as “Panchteerth” and has taken several steps to enhance the dignity of the Dalit community.
He also mentioned that BJP-ruled states have provided leadership opportunities to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. He cited examples from Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, where the BJP has promoted representation for marginalized groups.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi accused Rahul Gandhi of continuously raising issues related to caste, language, region, and patriarchy, thereby fostering conflict within society. He stated that the BJP’s approach is to establish harmony and social justice among all classes.
Dr. Trivedi referenced various incidents during Congress’s rule, asserting that their treatment of Dalits and marginalized communities does not align with their claims. He accused Rahul Gandhi of attempting to view every issue through the lens of social conflict, while the country needs unity.
He also targeted Congress and the Samajwadi Party, questioning their record on issues of Dalit respect, security, and representation. The BJP leader asserted that his party believes in the politics of social harmony, development, and empowerment for all classes.
During the press conference, BJP leaders advised Congress to engage in self-reflection, suggesting that before blaming others, it should review its history and current political behavior. The BJP claims that Congress consistently raises issues that strengthen divisive sentiments in society, while it is working on an agenda of social justice and inclusive development.
