New Delhi, August 29: Anil Baluni, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of politicizing Dalit issues, creating societal divisions, and distorting facts.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Baluni claimed that Rahul Gandhi unnecessarily linked a cleanliness initiative to caste, sparking controversy. He stated that the program had no caste connection, yet Gandhi attempted to politicize it.
Baluni questioned, “How much lower will Rahul Gandhi stoop?” He emphasized that the cleanliness initiative had no relevance to caste, and it was inappropriate for the opposition leader to politicize it. He pointed out that those involved in the cleanliness program were from the Dalit community and had no ties to the BJP. “It is astonishing that Rahul Gandhi feels no shame in making such false and fabricated accusations,” he added.
Baluni further asserted that after the partition of the country, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party are now attempting to divide society. He highlighted that history shows Congress has consistently wronged Dalits. “It is absurd for those who have disrespected Baba Saheb and mistreated Dalit leaders to lecture on Dalit politics. Rahul Gandhi, look into your own actions first,” he remarked.
During a press conference at the BJP headquarters, national spokesperson Guru Prakash Paswan stated that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party are trying to construct a political narrative based on lies and confusion. He accused Congress of treating the Dalit community merely as a vote bank. Paswan noted that while Congress speaks of Dalit dignity, it fails to treat Dalit leaders with respect within its ranks. He referenced the role of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge during the Wayanad Lok Sabha elections, questioning the party’s practices.
Paswan alleged that Congress has historically neglected Dalit leaders, citing the treatment of figures like Babasaheb Ambedkar, Babu Jagjivan Ram, and Sitaram Kesari. He claimed that Babu Jagjivan Ram did not receive his due political respect, and Babasaheb Ambedkar was not awarded the Bharat Ratna during Congress rule. According to him, it was during the BJP-supported government that Ambedkar received this honor.
The BJP spokesperson stated that if Congress is genuinely serious about social justice, it must address the incidents during its rule where atrocities were committed against the Dalit community. He highlighted that the BJP government has taken concrete steps to enhance representation for Dalits, tribals, and backward classes, mentioning leadership roles given to these communities in states like Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi described Rahul Gandhi’s politics as “divisive,” asserting that Congress often raises issues of caste, language, region, and patriarchy to create societal conflict. He stated that the BJP believes in politics that fosters harmony and social justice among all classes.
Dr. Trivedi referenced Congress’s history and various incidents in different states, arguing that the party’s true attitude towards Dalits and marginalized groups has differed from its political statements. He claimed that the BJP has consistently prioritized social harmony and inclusive development. He also noted that Rahul Gandhi views every issue through the lens of caste and social conflict, while the nation needs unity.
BJP leaders urged Congress to reflect on its political history and current behavior before making accusations against others. They asserted that Rahul Gandhi continuously raises issues that promote societal division, while the BJP aims to ensure development and social justice for all communities.
