New York, August 29: Mohan Bhagwat, the Chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), addressed the “One World, One Humanity” event in New York, USA.
During his speech, Bhagwat emphasized the importance of coexistence among different religions. He stated, “I am not a religious scholar or authority, but I work in a society that traditionally believes that while religions may differ, humanity remains one. Truth is singular, and humanity is a product of that truth.”
He pointed out that in today’s world, religions are often defined by rituals. While adherence to religious discipline and the path of divinity is essential, he questioned the ultimate purpose of religion. “Religion leads us towards truth. If I point towards the light, you should see the light, not just my finger. The aim is different; it is the pursuit of the ultimate truth, which we call by various names.”
Bhagwat reflected on historical events, noting that while India has faced foreign invasions and lost much, the tradition of teaching “One World, One Humanity” persists. He remarked, “People carry unnecessary burdens. In India, individuals of all religions coexist because, traditionally, India has provided shelter to all.”
He further stated that if one identifies as a Hindu, they must accept that all paths lead to the same goal. “Every individual deserves respect, and there should be no discrimination among humans. These differences enhance the beauty of nature, and we must embrace them. The enduring reality is that we are all one.”
Bhagwat also highlighted the significance of the Indian Constitution, which emphasizes unity. However, he lamented that politics often complicates these ideals. “Politics has become a game of self-interest. Where ‘I and mine’ exist, there is no solution. The answer lies in ‘we and ours.’ Our experience in India shows that we must start from society, and we have already begun this journey.”
