New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The 18th BRICS Summit has officially commenced in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed member countries with open arms at the India Habitat Centre. In his address, he emphasized that this group is not against anyone but strives to respect all.
Modi expressed his joy in hosting the summit, stating, “It brings me immense happiness to welcome you all to India. Our presidency of BRICS is built on a people-centric and humanity-first approach. Resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability have been our priorities. We have focused on connecting BRICS cooperation with the common people.”
He further elaborated, “With this mindset, we have organized over 350 meetings, welcoming your teams in nearly 30 cities. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your active contributions and support in making India’s BRICS presidency a success.”
Explaining the essence of BRICS, Modi noted, “This year’s summit marks a historic milestone as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of BRICS. The age of 20 in human life signifies a new phase of maturity and responsibility. It is a time when dreams become intertwined with responsibilities and strengths find new directions. BRICS is also at its ‘coming of age’ moment. Over the past two decades, BRICS has carved out a unique identity on the global stage. We respect each other’s perspectives and move forward with a sense of duty. Our aim is not to oppose anyone but to advance with a mindset of inclusivity.”
Looking ahead to the next two decades, Modi stressed the need to transform BRICS unity and consensus into tangible outcomes on the global platform. He proposed working on a new and ambitious agenda and highlighted the necessity of establishing a robust working system. “The presidency of BRICS rotates every year, but this should not hinder our institutional momentum. I propose a BRICS ‘continuity and implementation mechanism’ to ensure follow-up on all initiatives and results through the Troika,” he said.
