
New Delhi, June 8: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi have expressed their condolences over the passing of party secretary and former Indian Youth Congress in-charge Suraj Hegde. Kharge stated, “During this difficult time, my heartfelt sympathies are with his family, friends, and supporters. May God grant them the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss.”
In a post on the social media platform X, Kharge wrote, “I am deeply shocked and saddened by the untimely demise of Suraj Hegde. He was a young and promising leader who served the Congress party with utmost dedication as a secretary.”
Kharge further added, “Suraj was very close to my family, and I have known him since his teenage years. It was truly gratifying to see him grow as a committed leader, fully devoted to the organization. He made significant contributions to the Youth Congress while upholding the rich legacy and values of Devaraj Urs with honesty and commitment. My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and supporters during this challenging time. May God provide them with the strength and courage to endure this loss.”
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also shared his sorrow on X, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Suraj Hegde. As a Congress secretary and former in-charge of the Indian Youth Congress, he worked with deep faith in the party’s ideals. The Youth Congress was not just a responsibility for him; he guided young Indians who are now advancing Congress’s commitment to justice and democracy.”
Gandhi remarked, “His (Suraj Hegde’s) passing is an irreparable loss for the Congress family. My sympathies are with his family, colleagues, and all the Congress workers whose lives he profoundly impacted.”
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also expressed his sorrow over Hegde’s death. He said, “I was deeply shocked to hear the news of my colleague Suraj Hegde’s sudden passing. He was a Congress secretary, vice president of Karnataka Congress, and vice president of the state guarantee committee. His unique contribution to strengthening the Congress party through organizational skills and public welfare was invaluable. Today, we have lost an active leader who always maintained good relations with the workers.”
