New Delhi, July 11: The Indian Embassy has released a list of 15 Indian citizens who tragically lost their lives in a severe boat accident near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam. The list was obtained from Vietnamese authorities. Among the deceased, the highest number, 10, were from Tamil Nadu, followed by 3 from Andhra Pradesh and 2 from Kerala.
The Indian Embassy expressed deep sorrow on the social media platform X, stating, “We are deeply saddened to share the list of 15 Indian citizens who lost their lives in the tragic boat accident near Phu Quoc Island today. This list has been received from Vietnamese authorities. Our condolences are with the families of the deceased. The Indian Embassy in Hanoi and the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City are available for any assistance.”
According to the list issued by the embassy, the deceased include Senthil Kumar Jayavel, Muruga Prabhu Arumugam, Sridhar Sundararajan, Sheikh Abdullah Abdul Majid, Balaji Natesan, Vinaya Kumar Chithapuram, Ravishankar Sugumaran, Santosh Kumar Shantilal Jain, Babu Kuppuswamy, and Alagurajan Sivasamy (all from Tamil Nadu), as well as Nallapeta Adiseshaiya Raviteja, Sridhar Mudiyam, and Jaya Lakshmi Gelli (from Andhra Pradesh), and Evicot Cherian Thomas and Loweni Thomas (from Kerala).
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed profound grief over the incident. He stated, “The news of the boat carrying Indian tourists capsizing in Vietnam is extremely sad and heartbreaking. I pray for the peace of the departed souls, strength for the grieving families to bear this immense sorrow, and a swift recovery for all the injured.”
On Saturday, a speedboat carrying Indian tourists capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam. According to local media, 15 people died in the accident, while 21 others were rescued and hospitalized.
The Indian Embassy has stated that the causes of the accident are still under investigation, and the Vietnamese administration is conducting search and rescue operations. Control rooms have been established at the Indian Embassy in Hanoi and the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City to assist affected families.
Local news website VNExpress reported that the ill-fated speedboat had 32 Indian tourists, one tour guide, and four crew members on board. Reports indicate that the speedboat, operated by Ocean Pearl Island Company, experienced a sudden technical failure around 1 PM on Saturday, leading to its capsizing. Local authorities are investigating the entire incident.
