Shimla, July 11: The Himachal Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the Congress party on Saturday regarding allegations made against the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The BJP described these allegations as politically motivated attempts to exploit the faith of millions of devotees for electoral gain.
BJP’s chief spokesperson, Rakesh Jamwal, stated that Congress, which opposed the Ram Janmabhoomi movement for decades and repeatedly attempted to obstruct the construction of the Ram Temple, is now trying to create unnecessary controversy around a matter deeply connected to the faith of the nation.
He asserted that if any political party should reflect on its own actions before discussing corruption, it is Congress. Jamwal pointed out that during Congress’s rule, some of the largest corruption scandals in Indian history occurred, causing significant damage to the national treasury and severely harming the country’s global image.
He reminded the public of major scandals such as the 2G spectrum scam, the coal allocation (Coalgate) scandal, the Commonwealth Games scandal, the AgustaWestland helicopter deal, the Adarsh Housing Society scam, the National Herald case, the Bofors scandal, and the Aircel-Maxis case, among others that emerged during Congress-led governments. He emphasized that these scandals have become symbols of corruption and misgovernance under Congress’s rule.
Jamwal pointed out the irony of Congress, which has faced repeated allegations of large-scale corruption during its tenure, now attempting to preach transparency and accountability to others.
He urged Congress leaders to reflect on their party’s record before making politically motivated allegations against institutions associated with the Ram Temple. Jamwal stressed that Lord Ram is a symbol of faith for millions of Indians, and the Ram Temple belongs to the entire nation, not to any political party.
He insisted that if an issue requires investigation, it should be handled strictly according to the law and established legal processes. He accused Congress of dragging a sacred institution into political controversy solely for electoral benefits.
Jamwal concluded by asserting that the BJP is fully committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance, while Congress’s political legacy has been marred by corruption scandals and appeasement politics.
